A woman pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in New Hanover County
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — In New Hanover County, a woman pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in court Wednesday afternoon.
Jashe Favors was initially charged with second-degree murder when she was arrested back in 2023.
The charge against her stems from a shooting that happened on September 28th of that year, in the 600 block of Plum Nearly Lane
Wilmington police say Favors fatally shot 33-year-old Anthony Parker of Wilmington in the lower left back.
Favors will serve an active sentence of 64 to 89 months with a credit of 224 days, meaning she will serve at least 4 years.
In court Wednesday, the state informed the judge that Favors and Parker were in a relationship up until the day before Parker was shot. It was noted that Parker and Favors had switched phones, so Parker went to Favors’ apartment to return her phone. Favors said that Parker rushed her apartment, and she shot him.
Favors’ lawyer said she had a rough upbringing, and she apologizes for the loss of life. In court, when the judge was addressing Favors, at times she was seen shrugging and verbally agreeing.
The victim’s family was in the courtroom and four of them spoke.
The judge will also sign an order for the weapon to be turned in and processed.
