Ability Garden Plant Sale grows support for community wellness

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Saturday the New Hanover County Arboretum held the Ability Garden Plant Sale where the proceeds go a long way.

The sale mostly consists of houseplants, a few herbs and some annuals. The prices this weekend ranged from $2 to $12 a plant. All the money goes straight back to the therapeutic horticulture program — whose mission is to ’empower the underserved through gardening, education, and community outreach’.

Kadence Baumgardner is the assistant of the program, and she says it makes a difference.

“It’s exciting being able to tell people about our therapeutic horticulture program. It’s something that is kind of niche and a lot of people don’t know about it. Just explaining that we are able to use the power of plants and nature to truly make a difference in people’s lives is definitely rewarding,” Baumgardner said.

The plant sale runs every third Saturday from January through November of every year. It starts at 9 am and ends at 1 pm.
