Adult, teen arrested in connection to Wilmington shooting

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police say two people are in custody for a shooting that happened in early February.

On Saturday, February 1, officers responded to the 600 block of Bunting Drive in Vesta Village to the report of a ShotSpotter activation. Upon arrival, officers found evidence of a shooting.

A two-week investigation by WPD Gun Crimes Unit detectives revealed that the shooting was the result of a drug deal gone wrong.

On Monday, February 17, WPD  detectives, with the assistance of the State Bureau of Investigation’s (SBI) Criminal Apprehension Team (CAT), took a 16-year-old suspect into custody in Wilmington.  

The juvenile was charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon with the Intent to Kill, five counts of Discharge Firearm into Occupied Vehicle, Possession of a Handgun by Minor, and Discharging a Firearm in the City Limits. The suspect was jailed without bond.

Later that day, detectives conducted a search warrant in the 1900 block of Gufford Drive in Vesta Village and located evidence of the shooting including firearms.

Then on Tuesday, February 18, detectives arrested and charged 19-year-old Frank Grissett with Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill, seven counts of Discharge Firearm into Occupied Vehicle, Delivery of a Handgun to a Minor, and Discharge Firearm in the City Limits. He is currently being held at the NHSO Detention Center without bond.
