A&E’s ‘Interrogation Raw’ features how 1995 Brunswick Co. murder was #SOLVED

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Cape Fear region, a Brunswick County investigator, the founder of the CUE Center for Missing Persons, and WWAY are featured on a recent episode of A&E’s Interrogation Raw explaining how a murder in Boiling Spring Lakes was solved after more than 22 years.

The Episode called ‘Murdered Amongst Friends’ that aired on November 2 features the murder of Timothy Smart in Boiling Spring Lakes. According to the A&E website, “Interrogation Raw” tells the stories of dramatic murders and other serious crimes through the prism of the gripping interrogations of the accused.

The episode description says “After 22 years, a local news story reignites a decades-old cold case, leading investigators to question a close-knit circle of friends who they believe are hiding the truth about the disappearance of a 25-year-old man. Can investigators convince the group of friends to reveal who the killer is and finally get justice for the victim?”

The episode features Boiling Spring Lakes Detective Kevin Smith, CUE Center Founder Monica Caison, Special Agent Hunter Whitt and Special Agent Kellie Hodges with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and Smart’s friend Tim Altemeyer,

WWAY’s Hannah Patrick is also featured in the episode in her story about Smart from the #UNSOLVED case that aired in 2018 about his disappearance.

WWAY reported on the missing man’s unsolved case as part of Hannah Patrick’s “#Unsolved” series that aired in May of 2018. The SBI says after the news story aired, an anonymous caller contacted the SBI and provided information that revitalized Smart’s case.

Bryan Lee O’ Daniels pleaded guilty to second degree murder in the case in 2021.
