After school activities canceled across the region due to weather

SOUTHEASTERN NC (WWAY) — All after school activities, including sporting events, have been canceled for Pender, New Hanover, Brunswick, Columbus and Bladen counties on Friday due to the threat of severe weather.
According to Pender County Schools, “The weather system has the potential to create hazardous driving conditions. Therefore, Pender County Schools has made the decision to cancel all after school activities for Friday, January 12, 2024.”
New Hanover County Schools released a statement saying all athletic events will be rescheduled.
Brunswick County Schools also canceled all activities, which includes district athletics, YMCA afterschool programs, and Drivers Education.
Columbus County said all after school activities end at 6 p.m. and games have been postponed.
In Bladen County, athletic teams may hold practice this afternoon, but they must end no later than 5:00 PM. Basketball games have already been rescheduled. West Columbus at East Bladen is Wednesday, January 31. East Bladen will host Clinton on Tuesday, January 16.
Cape Fear Academy is also canceling evening events for tonight.
