Second person arrested in apparent deadly overdose

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office made another arrest in an apparent deadly overdose.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded at 1:28 a.m. on Sunday to an unresponsive person at 5135 Carolina Beach Road. Kenneth Hudgins was pronounced dead at the scene from an apparent overdose.

Through the investigation it was determined that Leah Dawn Blankenship and Joshua Alberto Flores were allegedly involved in the delivery on Saturday of fentanyl to Hudgins which was believed to lead to his death.

On Sunday, Flores was arrested and charged with 2 counts of trafficking fentanyl, 2 counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver schedule II controlled substance, possession of fentanyl, possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver schedule IV controlled substance, possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver methamphetamine, manufacture schedule II controlled substance, maintain vehicle/dwelling/place for controlled substance, possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver fentanyl, death by distribution by sale, and sell and deliver fentanyl.

On Tuesday, Blankenship was arrested and charged with death by distribution by sale, possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver fentanyl, and sale of fentanyl.
