Apartments removed from proposed Hampstead development

HAMPSTEAD, NC (WWAY) —  A new development proposed for Hampstead no longer includes apartments.

The project is proposed near Deerfield and Washington Acres and will be called Headwaters Town Center.

Homeowners near that area have been concerned about the new development for several reasons including traffic. Residents have been attending every meeting about the development since it was announced to voice their concerns.

Pender County Planning Director Kyle Breuer said the initial proposal had a grocery store, retail space and apartments. At a meeting last night, he said the apartments were taken out of the plan. The new plan includes 53,000 square feet for a grocery story and another 22,200 square feet for retail space.

Breuer said the rest of the development proposal now has to go to the planning board in January.
