Baby ducks rescued in Leland
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — The Winnabow Volunteer Fire Department rescued baby ducks from a sewer on Monday.
The fire department said that crews were dispatched for an animal rescue off of Hewett Burton Road on Monday at 7:00 p.m.
Nearby residents reported a family of ducklings had been washed into the sewer system in the heavy rain leaving their mom and siblings sounding out for help.
They say that The sewer system is a series of inter-connected pipes and retention ponds requiring firefighters to attempt rescues at different locations.
Once access points were blocked, except for two, using Rescue Engine 671’s pump, water and hose, firefighters were able to gently flush the ducklings towards the open hands of Captain Albosta on the other end.
The four ducklings were returned to their mother unhurt.
