NC Battleship asks for all hands on deck for Giving Tuesday

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) —  There was Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and now Giving Tuesday.

This is a national campaign that started back in 2012 and it’s all about giving thanks.

The USS North Carolina Battleship got involved this year and is asking for all hands on deck.

Hull repairs, walkway and cofferdam construction are needed so the ship is trying to raise $17 million to do so.

They have currently raised $14.8 million, but hopes to get the full amount by next year with your help.

“What we are finding is that a lot more people these days are really wanting to give back to the community,” said Promotions Director Heather Loftin. “We have found that Wilmington and statewide that there has been a large support of the Battleship mainly because it’s a national historic landmark but because it means so much to the state. It’s not just a momentum but this is the people’s battleship.”

Loftin says in past years they have only had private donations, but now has opened up the funding process to the public.
