Waking up this morning you may have smelled or seen smoke where you live. As winds in the Cape Fear region shifted, smoke from the Pender County fires is pushing southward affecting residents down the coast and across the state line.
Severe weather rolled into the region early Wednesday afternoon, flooding streets and cars across the Cape Fear. Although the area has been in a serious drought over the last couple of months, the instantaneous rush of water caused by the heavy rain overwhelmed the area.
More than 1.8 million homes along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts are at great risk of being damaged by a hurricane, three times the number located in federally defined flood zones, according to a report released Tuesday.
