Blooming frenzy at flower shops as Mother’s Day draws near

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — We’re just a few days away from celebrating those who helped raise us over the years as Sunday is Mother’s Day.

One of the most popular gifts to give mom is flowers.

According to the Society of American Florists, Mother’s Day is tied with Christmas as the second busiest day for flower shops.

Sweet Nectar Florists in Leland began receiving pre-orders for Mother’s Day more than a month ago.

Florist Roxanne Thompson said its great being able to help make Mother’s Day special for so many women.

“We’ll, it makes my day,” Thompson said. “We were just talking, a lot of us don’t have our moms so we’re so happy for all the people that do and that they’re sending flowers. Everyone loves their mom and it’s very nice, it’s a nice holiday to work.”

Thompson added that Sweet Nectar expects to complete more than 500 arrangements in the 3 days leading up to Mother’s Day and that the most popular flower color they’ve seen so far is lavender.
