Boosters help revamp Topsail weight room
HAMPSTEAD, NC (WWAY) — Off-season weight training for the Topsail High School football team is happening in a nicer place than before.
The school’s weightroom recently got a $30,000 facelift, including new floors, new mirrors, new equipment and a fresh paint job.
The school district says the team’s boosters and private donations made the upgrade possible, including about $10,000 from a golf tournament boosters hosted in April.
“We expect our kids to go out there and perform and compete now on the 3A/4A level,” Coach Wayne Inman said in a news release, adding that the weight room was not up to par. “I had a group of parents say, ‘We will raise the money.'”
The renovation includes new bars, power racks and kettlebell racks.
“This builds the foundation for the future,” Inman said. “Hopefully it will help us this year, but what it does is build a foundation of commitment from the school, the parents, the coaches, that we want our kids to have the best.”
Principal Chip Hodges said the weight room will not only benefit the school’s football program. All of Topsail’s athletic teams have access to the facility, which also functions as a classroom during the school day.
