Both yellow and purple flags in Oak Island on Monday

BRUNSWICK COUNTY (WWAY) — On Labor Day Monday, Oak Island Water Rescue’s Facebook page reported both yellow and purple flags are flying. The yellow flag is for the moderate rip current risk at the beaches. The purple flag indicates that there is dangerous marine life in the water, more specifically there are lingering jellyfish.
On Saturday, Oak Island Water Rescue updated the flags to include the purple flag as there were numerous reports of jellyfish stings.
With yellow and purple flags flying on Monday it is more of a reason to stay out of the water.
Remember, if you are caught in a rip current swim parallel to the shoreline and do not panic.
