Break from rain Saturday before Sunday return

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As an upper low pressure system continues to spin over the southeast U.S., a warm front is expected to be pulled westward into southeast NC on Saturday allowing slight drier air to move ashore.  The heavy rain band will continue to stay farther west through Saturday giving our area a break from the rain. While there is the chance for a passing shower Saturday, it looks overall to be a drier day and there could even be some peeks of sunshine.

As the upper level low moves closer to us Sunday the heavy rain band will push northeast back into our region. The rain is expected to be heavy at times Sunday afternoon through Monday before the whole system finally moves offshore on Tuesday. But before that time, many areas could once again pick up an additional 5 to 10 inches of rain which certainly could cause more flooding.

Stay tuned over the weekend for the latest updates. Make sure you have your WWAY Weather App downloaded to see if and where any storms are at any time!
