Britt’s Donut Shop opens for summer season
CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — An iconic donut shop at Carolina Beach has opened its doors for the summer season.
Britt’s Donut Shop at the Carolina Beach Boardwalk first opened in 1939. The small shop has been in continuous business almost as long as the town itself.
This year, Carolina Beach is celebrating its 100th anniversary.
To mark the occasion, The Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce was joined by Mayor Lynn Barbee to cut the ribbon at the donut shop on Friday.
The first 100 customers also received a free donut. We heard from some of them waiting in line.
“I asked some people in the line, I said, ‘are they really worth it?’ Cause we have some really great food in Vegas; and they said ‘yeah they’re really worth it, and this is probably the shortest line you’re going to see,’” one woman visiting the area from Las Vegas said.
“You want to come out and try it right out of the bag. Soon as you get it, eat it,” one man who was first in line said.
“They’re very like, hollow, and melt in your mouth. They’re just very great. Everything about them,” a woman in line said.
“I’ve been eating these donuts for 71 years. They’ll melt in your hand; they’ll melt in your mouth,” a man visiting from Raleigh noted.
The donut shop will be open for limited days and hours during the months of April and May. You can view the shop’s hours on their website.
