Brunswick County Commissioners approve changes to development process
BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — Brunswick County drivers will soon be more aware of new developments’ impacts on traffic.
Last week, the County’s Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a new ordinance requiring a traffic impact analysis before the county’s planning board can approve a development.
Previously, the analysis could be done after approval was given.
Randy Thompson is the Board of Commissioners chairman.
He said this change will help drivers know what changes to expect when new developments are started.
“It gives the public an opportunity to see what the actual transportation improvements are going to be on the front side whenever they start looking at the development that’s going in next to their neighborhood or down the street from their house,” Thompson said. “It gives them an opportunity to see a little bit more in detailed information about what is actually going to occur to the road structure.”
Thompson said the change will be made official in an amendment to the county ordinance at a future meeting.
