Brunswick County residents oppose several amendments considered by planning board
BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — More than 100 people came out Monday night to give their thoughts on several amendments under consideration by the Brunswick County Planning Board.
A Tree and Landscaping amendment would cover how many trees should be placed on new residential and commercial locations.
A Transportation Overlay Zone amendment would determine how trees and landscaping would be done along roadways, as there needs to be a buffer between the road and buildings.’
The third amendment discussed a change to when a traffic impact analysis would be done to determine how traffic would be affected by a new development before work on that development could begin.
Many residents, like Christie Marek, felt the amendments are a sign the county isn’t handling its continued growth responsibly.
“There is a lot of bipartisan,” Marek said. “So we can’t vote blue or red, we have to vote green. So we have to vote for the candidates that are going, that are for responsible growth and that are looking out for the best interests of our county.”
The board denied approval to the Tree and Transportation Overlay amendments, while the Traffic Impact Analysis was tabled to be revised and brought up at a later meeting.
