Brunswick County Senior Games holds opening ceremony
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Brunswick County Senior Games held it’s opening ceremony on Wednesday.
Now in the senior game’s 36th year, the opening kicks off more than 70 sporting events that will last until May 24th. The best in each category will go on to play at the state level.
Senior games veteran Curtis Holbrook was the torchbearer at this year’s games.
The games’ coordinator—Khrystye Haselden—said the games offer athletes the chance to connect with their community and return to the activities they love.
“I know for instance our cheerleading team, a lot of our cheerleaders always wanted to be a cheerleader when they were in high school, and this is their chance. So, it’s never too late,” she said.
Haselden added that this year’s games are the biggest ever with more than 600 participants.
