BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — Tuesday morning, the American Red Cross presented lifesaving awards to detention officers Wayne Covington and Kenneth Boyd Jr.

The award recognizes the efforts of an individual using their life-saving skills. Back in march, Officer Covington and Boyd acted quickly to help save an inmate’s life at the county jail, when she began choking in front of them.

“It is much better to know what to do in an emergency and not have to use it than to need that training and not have it.” Said Officer Covington when he was talking about his Red Cross training.
