Brunswick County to conduct public testing of voting equipment

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Brunswick County Board of Elections will begin logic and accuracy testing on Tuesday, January 13, in preparation for the upcoming primary election. The tests ensure that ballots, scanners, and other components of the voting system are functioning properly.
“Before every election, we conduct thorough testing of our voting equipment to confirm it is ready for use,” said Sara LaVere, Director of the Brunswick County Board of Elections. “As part of our commitment to transparency, the public is welcome to observe the testing process in person or on our live-stream.”
The ballots will be marked and run through tabulators for the mock election. The results are then compared to the expected outcomes to verify the system’s accuracy. A bipartisan team oversees the preparation of the machines and conducts the tests.
The team will reset the equipment to ensure no test information remains, and the equipment will be sealed with a logged security tag after the test is completed.
The testing is open to the public with limited space available. Those unable to attend can view the live stream on Zoom.
