Business owners speak out about the future of Carolina Beach Boardwalk
CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY ) — As the summer season comes to an end Carolina Beach is already planning for next year.
Tuesday, town officials met with the community to talk about what’s next for the boardwalk.
Business owners, community members, and town leaders filled Shelby Jeans Restaurant to talk about future plans.
From late September to March, the boardwalk will undergo yet another face lift.
“Get rid of the eyesore of the wires hanging everywhere,” said Island Ice Factory Owner Leonerd Abrosd.
New sanitary, power, and water services will be installed throughout the area. Old lighting will be removed and be replaced buried underneath new concrete.
Some of the concerns by business owners were keeping on schedule and the transition between power sources.
Abrosd says, “if it’s shut us down for 5 or 6 hours what’s going to happen to the stuff still in the freezer?”
After several vandalism incidents during the past few months, new video cameras will also be installed.
The cost of the projects is about $750,000. Town leaders say there are 15 to 20 days added to the timeline in case weather or equipment issues arise during the process.
