Businesses to race for a cause at United Way trike event in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Businesses from across the Cape Fear region will take part in a unique fundraiser later this month, combining friendly competition with support for local nonprofits.

The United Way of the Cape Fear Area is hosting its Spring Tricycle Race on April 28 at The Eagle’s Dare in Wilmington. Organizers say teams from a variety of industries, including financial planners and roofers, will compete in the semi-annual event.

The fundraiser supports more than 40 nonprofit partners funded by United Way. Organizers say money raised will go back into the community to support programs serving vulnerable populations.

Races are scheduled to begin shortly after 3:30 p.m. and will run until about 5 p.m., with teams competing in three heats. The top two teams will face off in a final race.

The winning team will receive a $500 donation to a nonprofit of their choice. An additional $250 donation will be awarded to the team with the best spirit.

The event is free and open to the public.

Teams interested in participating can register online here.
