Buy a wristband, fill a belly

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- You had a chance to throw back a cold one in Wilmington, while helping fill bellies in the U.S., and across the world Friday.

The Downtown Sundown Concert Series helped out the Full Belly Project. By purchasing a $1 wristband to buy beer or wine, concert goers helped raise funds for a local non-profit. It's an organization that helps rural communities become self sustaining by giving them equipment such as solar water pumps or a nut shellers.

Organizers said they try to help struggling communities in America, and third-world countries.

"We've been around for 13 years and we design and distribute simple agricultural machines to help people in rural communities including North Carolina and as far away as Burma," said Daniel Ling, the executive director of the Full Belly Project.
