Cape Fear Academy students donate more than 100 bikes overseas

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Academy Beta Club students collected more than 100 bikes Saturday as a part of the outreach project called Bikes for the World.

The goal is to collect unwanted bicycles and donate them to community programs in countries where they will be put to good use.

Cape Fear Academy Senior Jay Andrews says bicycles provide essential transportation to work, school, and social services for people in many third world countries.

“It’s feeling amazing,” says Andrews. “I love it. I did it last year and I’m excited to be back this year especially since I’m a senior. It feels awesome to be able help out in this way.”

Bikes for the World was founded in 2005 and has been able to donate more than 100,000 bicycles overseas.
