WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A number of beaches in the Cape Fear have been voted in as part of USA TODAY’s 10 Best Readers’ Choice travel award contest.

Over a four-week period, readers of USA TODAY voted daily for their favorite beaches to determine the winners.

Three New Hanover County island beaches were featured, including Carolina Beach in second place, Wrightsville Beach in sixth place, and Kure Beach in seventh place.

“As we kick off summer in Wilmington and our island beaches, we are delighted that each of our three island beaches are once again receiving a national spotlight on the list of ‘Best Beach’ winners in USA TODAY’s Readers’ Choice contest,” said Kim Hufham, the president and CEO of the New Hanover County Tourism Development Authority.

Beaches in other counties also got ranked, including three in Brunswick County. Holden Beach came in third place, Oak Island at fifth place, and Ocean Isle Beach landed in tenth place.

Topsail Beach also came in eighth place.
