NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) –The Cape Fear Museum of History and Science is inviting the community to STEM ILM, a science and technology-focused event hosted by Cape Fear Museum Associates, on Friday, Feb. 7, 2025, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The evening will feature a 32-person round-robin Mario Kart Nintendo 64 tournament with a $150 cash prize, along with heavy hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and interactive exhibits.

In addition to the tournament, the event will also feature cuisine from Pine Valley Market, a specialty cocktail, Super Mario Bros. movie props from the museum’s collection, photo opportunities with favorite Mario characters, the Game Changers traveling exhibition, and additional activities celebrating STEM.

“Gaming promotes critical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, making it a fun and powerful way to bring people together for a good cause,” said museum director Kate Baillon.

STEM ILM is an 18-and-over event. Advance tickets are available for $25 for museum members and $30 for non-members. Tickets can be purchased online here. On the day of the event, tickets will be $35. Players must register in advance to compete in the Mario Kart tournament.

Proceeds from the event will help expand STEM education initiatives to more students and families throughout the Lower Cape Fear Region.
