Cape Fear Women’s Rugby is utilizing their club to create community
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Women’s Rugby is utilizing their club to create community in Wilmington.
Founded in 1974, Cape Fear Rugby has been a place for people to come together and show their love for the sport. The sport itself allows people of all shapes and sizes to come together to play and grow as a team and a community.
Club President Anna Poston says it was a way for her to continue her love for the game as well as share her love for rugby within the community.
“We’re so passionate about pushing it because we want people to be a part of it and get to know this great thing that we’ve come to love and, you know, just sharing what we love with other people in the community,” said Poston.
Their hope is to continue to grow the rugby community, as well as encourage people to come out and try something new or different.
“It’s one of the very few sports where there’s a space for everyone,” says club captain Mindi White. “It doesn’t matter body type, it doesn’t matter experience, it doesn’t matter where you came from, what you’re into outside of this, it’s a space for everyone. We welcome everyone and we want everyone to be a part of it.”
The club continues to grow, having a men’s and a youth team, and even has a new clubhouse in the works.
