Carolina Beach prepares for Ana, as Wrightsville Beach waits to see

On our coast people are keeping an eye on the sky as newly named Subtropical Storm Ana heads our way.

Some towns are already preparing, while others are doing a wait and see.

Thursday was a gorgeous night at Wrightsville Beach. Outside of it being a little windy you’d likely never know there was a storm approaching. That’s part of the reason Wrightsville Beach Town Manager Tim Owens says they are just watching and waiting at the moment and not making any specific preparedness plans just yet.

He says the one thing they are concerned about is the ocean churning. Ownes says they will only have a few lifeguards on duty this weekend, and if the rain doesn’t come as expected, then people may want to get in the water, and that’s just not a good idea.

Out in Carolina Beach earlier today, though, the scene was a lot different. It was nasty out.

The town manager there said they have police and fire on standby and are making other preparations just in case, including lowering the level of Carolina Beach Lake.

Folks we talked with out in Wrightsville Beach this evening, though, tell us they’re not worried.

“I’ve seen it before, and it has passed on by, and it is not a hurricane. It is not even a tropical storm yet I don’t think,” Sandy Young said. “It’s just gonna blow by I hope.”

Young works at the Silver Gull Motel next to Johnny Mercer’s Pier. He says they’ve had a few cancellations, but they’ve made up for that with walk-ins from folks curious about what the storm will do.

New Hanover County says it is waiting and watching, too. Everyone said more decisions willl be made after everyone gets a good look at what this storm may do in the morning.
