CFPUA finds artifacts during recent project

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Public Utility Authority crews recently uncovered some artifacts during a recent replacement project.

Crews were wrapping up a water and sewer replacement project on 5th street in Wilmington when they found several artifacts.

there were ceramic fragments, bottles, and pieces of household objects like water pitchers throughout the work area.

CFPUA says their contractor’s archaeology team estimates they date from the late 19th to the early 20th century.

Everything has been taken for cleaning and cataloguing.
