City of Wilmington offers tips for residents Tropical Storm Hermine
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY ) – The City of Wilmington is monitoring problem drainage areas and coordinating on-call staff for any response that might be needed this weekend. They’re also offering these tips for Wilmington residents:
- Along with lawn furniture and other outdoor items, be sure to secure your trash and recycling carts as they can become projectiles and cause damage or injury during strong wind gusts.
- If you have to be on the road during heavy winds and rain, remember that there is a 4-way stop at intersections with traffic lights without power.
- Do not attempt to cross any ponding on the roadways, either on foot or in a vehicle. Remember, turn around and don’t drown.
- Do not attempt to cross flood waters, either on foot or in a vehicle.
- Stay away from any low hanging or downed power lines. These should always be considered to be live and highly dangerous. Call Duke Energy Progress immediately at (800) 419-6356 if you see a line own.
- Please do not call 911 to report downed trees, power lines or flooding. Here are the numbers to call:

- Call 341-7852 to report trees or tree limbs blocking roadways within city limits (leave a message if no one answers)
- Call 341-4646 to report flooding or other stormwater issues within city limits (leave a message if no one answers)
