Coast Guard: Missing woman found

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Coast Guard says a woman who went missing Sunday night has been found.

The Coast Guard and the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office were looking for a woman who went missing from River Road Park near the Cape Fear River tonight.

Petty Officer Second Class Nate Little John said the Coast Guard was calling it an ‘unconfirmed person in the water case’.

John said she was last seen on a kayak. He said the kayak was found near the water, but there is no sign of the woman. He said the kayak was dragged up onto a beach. It was not floating.

The coast guard and the Sheriff’s Office are searching. John said there is also a crew from Oak Island helping. John said the sheriff’s office will stop searching by helicopter soon and then the Coast Guard will take over.
