Commissioner Woody White will not seek third term

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Woody White will not seek a third term on the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners, according to a news release.

White was elected to his first four-year term in 2012.

“I know that over the last 8 years, our combined efforts have made New Hanover County a better place for families and businesses, and a safer and more financially sound community than ever before,” White said in a news release. “I have decided against seeking a third term because I believe that democracy is better served by having new people rotating in and out of public office, especially at the local level.”

White added that serving in public office is an honor and a full-time commitment and looks forward to new opportunities for his business, himself and his family.

White was elected to his second term in 2016 and would have been up for re-election in 2020.

He is not the only New Hanover County commissioner who announced they would not seek another term.

Earlier this month, Pat Kusek, the only other republican on the board, announced she would not seek re-election.
