Community concerns: Stoney Creek residents prepare for more potential rainfall
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — With more unpredictable weather headed our way, we visited Stoney Creek Plantation in northern Brunswick County today, where 19 houses sustained damage from last week’s storm, which brought heavy rainfall.
Residents in a low-lying area of the community were hit hard and now worry they could face the same predicament again, as the ground remains saturated from last week’s storm.
Many have adjusted their evacuation routes to avoid being trapped in their homes.
Resident Hunter Gadwill shares his concerns:
“The creek is still at a much higher level than it usually is around our entire neighborhood. The ground is still heavily saturated with water. Everyone is in the process of recovering from a flood, but we are still worried that we could flood again in a couple of days.”
Brunswick County Emergency Management Director David McIntire states his team is monitoring the storm closely.
