Community workshops set to shape Leland master plan

LELAND, NC (WWAY) —  Leland is one of the fastest-growing towns in the area so to keep up with that pace officials are hoping to update their master plan with the feedback from the community.

The Town of Leland’s slogan is “grow our future, nourish our roots” and officials hope to tune up the policies that make that true through the feedback from residents over the next few days.

The town will be holding six workshops starting Tuesday and running through Friday as a collaborative community process to explore what everyone has learned since the town last drew up a master plan.

The town’s current master plan was adopted back in 2009 to help guide policy decisions, projects and capital improvements within the town.

Land use, public vision, future growth, and quality of life are some of the topics that will be discussed throughout the week.

“It’s not a staff plan,” Leland Senior Planner Ashli Barefoot said. “It’s not the elected officials’ plan. This is the town’s plan, so this is what the town wants to see continue here or be different here. It’s their workshops.”

Barefoot says the biggest goals are to make sure the plan is up to date and to keep the goals and visions inline with what the citizens want.

All of the workshops will be held at the new Town Hall in Leland.
