Construction starting on new Carolina Beach boardwalk bathroom
CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Construction has started on a new two-story bathroom that will replace an aging one just off the Carolina Beach boardwalk.
The existing bathroom was built back in the 1960s and is unable to handle the increase in visitors to the town during the summer.
The new bathroom will have access at both ground level and from the raised boardwalk.
It will comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, allowing handicapped access on both levels.
Council member Joe Benson said construction should be finished by the end of the summer.
“Hopefully we get weather that cooperates, they accelerate the work that they’re doing and that which is pinched off here in terms of fenced, bring it down, make it more accessible over time, that’s the ideal situation,” Benson said.
Benson adds that temporary bathrooms will be in place along the boardwalk to accommodate visitors during construction.
