Council members say road extension could help economic development
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington City Council members are discussing plans to extend Scientific Park Drive off of Martin Luther King Parkway.
Council member Kevin O’Grady said they have been trying to find a way to make this part of town more accessible. He said this road extension could be good for economic development.
“Right now, there is almost nothing developed,” O’Grady said. “It’s really one of the few undeveloped areas of the city and one of the reasons it is undeveloped is because there is no good access to it.”
He said the North Carolina Department of Transportation wants to build a raised highway, but O’Grady said that will not help them with access to this road. He said council is trying to find another way to extend access to Scientific Park Drive.
