Curfew extended, New Hanover County opens post-storm shelter operations

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (NEWS RELEASE) – New Hanover County and the City of Wilmington are extending the curfew that is already in place. The curfew will now begin at 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. This curfew is in effect until further notice.

In addition, New Hanover County will be consolidating shelter operations and opening up Hoggard High School today at 5 p.m. to the public. Hoggard will be able to accommodate 1,387 people from our community.

Hoggard will be a pet co-location shelter, and has medical grade oxygen available. IDs are not required to check into shelters. Information about what to bring when sheltering is available at EmergencyNHC.com.

Prior to opening to the public, oxygen-dependent and dialysis patients from the hospital will be transported to Hoggard, along with all shelterees currently at one of the county’s five pre-storm shelters. This will help the county consolidate shelter resources like cots, water, and food.

New Hanover County Emergency Management continues to operate the Emergency Operations Center and Joint Information Center.
