Damage from Matthew forces cancellation of July 4 fireworks at Grand Strand pier

The annual Fourth of July fireworks display at the Surfside Beach Pier has been canceled for 2017.

According to a post on the Town of Surfside Beach Facebook page, extensive damage to the pier during Hurricane Matthew in October 2016 has affected the event.

However, officials said the all of the festivities aren’t canceled.
