Dead bears found on I-40

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — At least two dead bears have been found on the side of the road in Pender County.

The bears were found near the Burgaw and Wallace exits on I-40.

Clayton Ludwick with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission said this is the time of year the bears start breeding, and pushing away their cubs from the previous year.

Ludwick added that adolescent bears may encounter highways in their search for new habitats.
