Deputies re-enact crash at school to raise awareness among teen drivers

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office held a program for teens to help prevent bad driving and road deaths.

The Vehicle Injury Prevention for a Very Important Person or “VIP For a VIP” program was for North Brunswick High School students today. Deputies said more than 40% of teen deaths happen in car crashes, so the students watched a re-enactment of a fatal accident to drive home the point.

“Every 3rd person out of 10 will be involved some time in their life in a alcohol related crash,” said First Sgt. Daniel Little of the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies also said you can prevent most of those crashes. This program is dedicated to the students who have lost their lives in car accidents. A similar event is scheduled Wednesday at South Brunswick High School.
