Deputies: Two busted with more than 300 grams of meth

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Two people were arrested following a joint drug investigation by the New Hanover and Brunswick County Sheriff’s offices.

According to a news release, detectives with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office arrested William Neil Thompson, 62, and Rhonda Lee Mason, 53, in Wilmington Friday.

During a traffic stop in the area of Dawson and 17th streets, New Hanover deputies found Thompson and Mason to be in possession of approximately 8.1 grams of methamphetamine that was hidden in a secret compartment inside the car.

An additional 319 grams of meth was found at a home in Winnabow.

Following the arrest, detectives found large scales with methamphetamine residue, hidden traps, safes, false containers, used and unused syringes, smoking devices and plastic baggies used for packaging at Thompson’s home on Cobblestone Drive in Wilmington.

Thompson and Mason are being held at the New Hanover County Detention Facility under the following charges:

Thompson:

  • Trafficking methamphetamine by transportation
  • Trafficking methamphetamine by possession
  • Conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine
  •  Felony maintaining a vehicle
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • PWIMSD methamphetamine
  • Possession of methamphetamine
  • Felony maintaining a residence
  •  Simple possession SCH IV

Mason:

  • Trafficking methamphetamine by transportation
  • Trafficking methamphetamine by possession
  •  Conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine
  •  Felony maintaining a vehicle
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • PWIMSD methamphetamine
