Detour set for weekend-long road closure in Leland
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Work to change a traffic pattern near Leland and Belville will shut down the road between the two towns for an entire weekend.
The NCDOT says it will shut down NC 133 between the exit ramps to US 17/74/76 from 9 p.m. on Friday through 6 a.m. on Monday.
The closure is necessary for crews to pave and connect ramps at the interchange to NC 133 and repaint lanes back to the existing pattern head of work to convert that section of Village Road/River Road to a diverging diamond pattern.
“One lane of each ramp will be open, and if you are coming from Leland headed towards Belville, and you want to go to Wilmington, you will have to take that first ramp that you come to, and they will have to follow 17 South and go down and make a U-turn right there at the Waterford area to get on 17 North to take them into Wilmington,” DOT Engineer Wanda James said.
James says the diverging diamond is scheduled to be completed in December.
