Diamond Hawks go 1-1 on Opening Day


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)–The bats didn’t come to life for UNCW baseball until the late innings in their season opener. The Diamond Hawks scored two runs in the bottom of the 9th inning on Friday afternoon, but fell to Saint Joseph’s, 4-2.

The Seahawks were only supposed to have one game on Friday , but with possible weather in the area they moved up the UNCW and VMI game. UNCW responded in the second game with a come from behind 5-2 win.

In the win over VMI , the Seahawks were led by Kep Brown offensively. He went 1-4 on the night with 3 RBI’s. Henry Ryan picked up his first win of the year on the mound throwing 2.0 innings with four strikeouts.

UNCW will take on Saint Joseph’s on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 P.M. from Brooks Field.
