Disaster recovery center offers FEMA assistance, D-SNAP cards
BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — If you still need to register for FEMA, a disaster recovery center is open at the O’Dell Williamson Auditorium at Brunswick Community College. North Carolina Social Services will also be set up to sign people up for DSNAP food cards.
The disaster recovery center will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday.
A FEMA official says more than $57 million have been approved for Florence victims. NC Social Services is also signing people up for cards that can be used at grocery stores.
One Brunswick County resident says FEMA has been a lifeline for her.
“It doesn’t matter how long it takes. If you don’t understand it, they help explain it to you. She called me three times in one day to tell me, ‘Look, this is the problem,” and I said, ‘Okay.'” Then she said, ‘Well they can’t do it today.’ Then she called me again and she said, ‘We’re going to try it tomorrow,'” said Hughes.
A FEMA representative says that visiting a disaster recovery center will make the process as clear as possible for people. She also says another center will open in Pender County this week.
