Documentary about tennis legend and Wilmington native to be shown at UNCW

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — There will be a screening of the documentary about tennis legend and Wilmington native Althea Gibson Tuesday. The documentary ‘Althea’ premiered Friday on the American Masters series on PBS.

Tuesday, the film will be shown at the Lumina Theater at UNCW from 6 to 9 pm. The event will be sponsored by ONE LOVE TENNIS and Upperman African American Cultural Center.

The screening will help kick off pre Althea Gibson Week in Wilmington. September 14-21 has been proclaimed by the City as Althea Gibson Week in Wilmington.

Organizers said the final version of documentary is even more informative and better than what was seen back in June at Thalian Hall. Organizers said they want people to come and join them to keep this great legacy of Althea Gibson  alive.
