Drug dealers sentenced in separate guilty pleas

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A pair of drug dealers are heading to prison closing out a pair of New Hanover County drug cases.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, Nakesha McCray, 38, pleaded guilty yesterday to several crimes, including trafficking. Judge Allen Cobb sentenced her to 35-51 months in prison and a $50,000 fine.

Prosecutors say Wilmington Police stopped McCray for a registration violation on June 30, 2014. McCray told the officer that her license was suspended. The officernoticed the odor of marijuana from the vehicle. When the officer asked her to step out so he could search the car. McCray refused sped off before crashing the car a short distance away then ran off. Officers found a book bag approximately 30 feet from the car with 142 grams of cocaine, digital scales and an identification card of McCray. McCray was later arrested and bonded out of jail. While she was out on bond, New Hanover County Vice and Narcotic Detectives received information that McCray was selling cocaine. On June 1 investigators got a search
warrant for her home on Swan Street. Detectives saw her drive away from the residence in a burgundy Lexus. They stopped her and brought her back to the house, where they found 31 grams of cocaine and $3,500.

In a separate case, Judge Jay Hockenberry sentenced Davy Spencer, 36, yesterday to 87-117 months in prison after Spencer pleaded guilty to selling cocaine and heroin and being a habitual felon.

In early 2013, New Hanover County detectives and cooperating witnesses bought 10 bags of heroin from Spencer at the Red Roof Inn on Market Street. In March 2014, detectives used another cooperating witness to buy heroin and cocaine from Spencer at the Budgetel on Market Street. In August 2014, deputies responded to a domestic violence call at 808 N. College Road, where they found Spencer and two women in a car he’d been driving. They got consent to search the car and found a coast with 45 bags of heroin.
