Early-season sea turtle false crawl reported in Holden Beach

HOLDEN BEACH, NC (WWAY) — An early-season sea turtle false crawl was reported Wednesday morning in Holden Beach.

“This is surprisingly early, given that no nesting has been reported in Georgia and South Carolina so far this year, and turtle crawls in those states normally precede North Carolina,” local volunteers said.

Sea turtle nesting season normally begins in May and runs through November.

It is unknown whether this turtle will try to nest in Holden Beach again or elsewhere (including south of NC).
