Early voting comes to an end

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Political campaign signs fill the sides of road pretty much wherever you go, but especially on the road leading up to the New Hanover County Government Center, where early voters for the past several days have been able to cast their ballot.

As early voting came to an end Saturday, people were voting until the last minute. Some even tried to vote after the 1 p.m. closing time.

One stop lead Laura Rogers says the amount of folks who came out to vote early equals the amount they would see during a presidential election. Staff knew they were going to have a high turn out than previous years, but not as many as they had.

“Campaigning has been normal,” Rogers said. “There hasn’t been more candidates out than normal. I have no clue what has brought more voters in. It’s not a complaint. It’s really awesome but at the same time… wow!”

The amount of early voters was double prior years, Rogers said. On Thursday, more than 18,000 people came out and exercised their right to vote.

If you are voting an absentee ballot, make sure you have it stamped by Tuesday for it to be valid.

If you haven’t voted yet, you can cast your ballot Tuesday from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
