East Columbus girl’s basketball advances to state championship

Gators defeated the East Bladen Eagles 76-66 in Winston-Salem Monday

(WILMINGTON), N.C. (WWAY) – The East Columbus Gators girls’ basketball team is in the state championship game after defeating the East Bladen Eagles 76-66 Monday in the East Regional Final.

East Columbus will play Friday at Wake Forest either against Mountain Heritage or Cherokee from the west.

Malia Graham led the way for the Gators. The sophomore scored 29 points and added 11 rebounds. Other strong performances came from Chynna Patrick and Malayah Hines; Patrick had 16 points and 17 rebounds while Hines had 17 points, five assists and three steals.

Laila Smith had a huge performance from the Eagles. The junior tallied a game-high 36 points. NeNe Ward added 19 points.

East Columbus now improves to 26-1. That one lone loss was to East Bladen back on January 3rd.
