East Columbus seeking replacement for head football coach

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Columbus County Schools is looking for a new head football coach at one of its high schools.

A spokesperson confirms East Columbus head coach Doug Skipper was suspended on April 16th and has been on paid suspension.

Skipper became the head coach of the Gators in 2022.

East Columbus is seeking his replacement, with a job posting up for a head football coach and strength training coach.

Skipper tells WWAY he was suspended for false accusations.

The school declined to comment.

A mutual decision was made to not renew the contract.

Skipper says his contract was not renewed due to his teaching license, with him needing some classes. He says it had nothing to do with a suspension.
